AN EVENT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED THIS YEAR

but put the date for next year's

GOWER WALKING FESTIVAL

in your diaries NOW

Saturday 6th June to Sunday 21st June 2009

The Gower Walking Festival 2008

was held from Saturday 7th of June until Sunday 22nd June this year, and as promised, was better than ever with 34 walks taking place over the two week period and also including the highly successful Gower Gallop, when over £800 was raised for the RNLI and South Wales Evening Post's Charity Stroll. The variety of walks from 1 to 25 miles included this year the opportunity to walk completely around the peninsula in 7 easy stages. 3 walkers completed the challenge and they were presented with framed certificates to commemorate the event. (See picture above) Good weather prevailed almost throughout the event and all but one of the planned walks took place, each being well supported. One walk unfortunately had to be cancelled when heavy rain in the walk area of the Brecon Beacons meant that there would have been too high a risk to safely carry out the walk.

It is hoped that the 2009 Brochure will be available by the end of January to enable you to plan your visit to this beautiful part of Wales. It will of course be also available to view or download on this web site early in the new year. In the meantime, this year's brochure will continue to be available to view to give you a taste of what we will be preparing for your visit next year. We look forward to seeing you.

Tourists get help all year at centre

The new-look Mumbles Tourist Information Centre is open for business and is increasing its role in the community.
Since first opening in 1976, the service has moved around but now officials believe that they have found a permanent home. They have taken their place within Mumbles Methodist Church, which has undergone a £1.1 million revamp. And the operation has gone all-the-year-round after the decision to ditch the seasonal opening which has traditionally existed. It is hoped that the Centre, operated by a voluntary management team with financial support from the City & County of Swansea and Mumbles Community Council, will improve its profile and help attract more visitors out of season. First year results appear to justify that decision as it has received almost 60,000 visitors in the first 12 months of opening.
