Beaches

Langland Bay

My own kids love the beaches and as we live close to Mumbles we tend to regularly visit both Caswell Bay and Langland Bay. Both are great beaches for families. Pay and Display car parks allow good access to each beach and during the summer months there are cafe's and 'bucket and spade' shops that are welcoming.

Tip: On sunny days both beaches can become extremely popular, particularly at weekends (The car parks can become full by lunch time, so try to get to these beaches early in the day. - The beaches are extremely spacious at mid to low tide but can be less so at high tide - notably Caswell. Both Beaches have toilet and beach shower facilities.

Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months. Older Children will enjoy the Tennis Courts at Langland, the courts are well maintained and coaching is available - a council attendant arranges bookings and can be found near the sloped entrance to the car park.

Caswell Bay

Families with smaller children should consider beaches that are close to facilities. On Gower, Port Eynon, LLangennith (Hillend), Rhossili and Oxwich have amenities close by.

Port Eynon: There are a number of shops and cafe's next to the easily accessible beach at Port Eynon and the car park is rarely too full.

Oxwich Bay: The Oxwich Bay Hotel is situated on the beach at Oxwich and is has refined the art of catering for families - a good example of a business that puts the customer first. In my opinion they also have one of the best Santa's Grotto's at Christmas time. A little further back from the beach are tea rooms and a shop.

Rhossili Bay: The scenery at Rhossili is spectacular and a must for any visitor, there are a number tea rooms and cafe's. There is the National Trust Centre which has a good souvenir / gift shop. The cliffs are potentially very dangerous and children should be closely supervised. Access to the beach may not suit those with young families, in which case you may wish to drive to Llangennith where the car park is next to the beach.
